If you have a business blog and desperate to get people to come and read it (since you've spent countless hours doing research and all that), you're not alone. I would say that more than 70 Percent of bloggers all around the world have problems getting their readers to read their business blogs. The handfulful few are usually loyal customers, mothers, fathers, aunts and uncles and … er … their kids.
I know it's unconventional but this is a fact. More people are interested in NOTHING IN PARTICULAR than in something. Lots of people make online keyword searches for things such as 'Paris Hilton' or 'Britney Spears' or 'Mariah Carey' or 'Nick Lachey' …. (whatever) than people who make searches for 'top quality graphic design services' or 'cheap point of sale system'. You get the picture. Here, it makes things a little slow for your business blog.
But I want to share this business blogging tip with all of you who are struggling to find people to come to your blog. It's not really a secret but definitely a neat trick, I would say.
Occasionally, blog about something completely out of sync. Something completely not within your industry. Something personal …. say, a personal opinion about something. Put this in your business blog. It could even be something as simple as writing about what you think of Paris Hilton's public rendezvous with the press.
The reason is this: you want to connect with the readers. You want to put a person / face / personality to your blog. You want to make the readers feel like you're talking to them and help them.
When everything's so bland and about your business products or services all the time, it gets a little …. boring. Yeah, no one wants to read boring stuff all the time. Spice it up with a little personal opinion and you will soon see people wondering what's up your sleeve the next time they come to your blog. You can even put a poll in there and ask for feedback from the people who come to your blog! This kind of interaction encourages them to come back.
Some of you might say that this is wasteful since it does not attract the direct target market. But who's to say whom these people know. When you get some people to sit up and take notice of you, they may help spread the word or link to your blog. Linking and word of mouth, let's just say, are very powerful weapons of promotion.
So, go on and blog about nothing in your business blog right now.
