Linking is an easy way to be noticed by search engines and to ensure your SEO campaign is successful. The more relevant links your site has, the more valuable your site becomes. However, sites that contain few links may not be considered to be of much value. Links play a very important role in your website's PageRank. Google, MSN, and others currently use multiple link popularity analyzes as a ranking critera, assuming that a web site that is linked to by other sites of similar interest will be a more valid search result to users.
By providing great information on your website, many other sites will want to link your site to their own. For example, if you write a useful article about how to travel cheap in Hawaii, dozens of Hawaiian travel websites, Hawaiian airlines, and other Hawaiian sites will receive link to you.
In this same example, you would want your site to have links to other Hawaiian-related sites, such as airlines, Hawaii in Hawaii, Hawaiian activities, and so on. It is an important factor in linking popularity that you get people in related categories to link to your site.
Search engines will also pay close attention to the text in links. Make sure to always use your main keywords in your website's links.
Always check its PageRank before linking to another website. If the site has a PageRank of zero, you should reconsider it linking to them. Many times, sites that have a PageRank of zero and have been around for a longer period of time means Google has blacklisted them. Always link to only those sites that are relevant to yours.
