Being accepted for a scholarship grant is a once-in-a-lifetime event that should be treasured. Performing well in the entire program is not enough. You have to show your gratitude by writing a good scholarship thank you letter. Donors of free scholarship grants are generous people who want to share some of their blessings to others. A thank you letter for free scholarship applications is surely a way to acknowledge their efforts and will inspire them to continue their program for future scholars. Here are a few tips in writing a thank you letter.
Send a thank you letter to each donor.
This is applicable if the scholarship is granted by an organization with a couple of members in the board of directors or officers. A thank you note will make them recognize you and will let them look forward to your success in the future. As much as possible, indicate a personal note for each individual highlighting the unique things about them. You may want to conduct a short research on some personal facts for each officer and use this information in a good manner.
Show enthusiasm all throughout the letter. Highlight the future implications of the scholarship. You may want to mention your future plans as well and highlight those plans that are in accordance to the organization’s mission and vision. You may want to refer to the templates from the Internet however it is important to use your conditions and context as basis for your enthusiasm.
Balance between formality and your personal touch. Yes, a thank you letter should still be a formal letter with all the corresponding parts present. Yet, it should not sound too mechanical and distant. On the other hand, it should not also be too casual and conversational.
Observe organization, coherence and style. These elements are basic demands in writing and should still be applied even in higher writing. State your main idea clearly and hit your point at once! You may want to add embellished words as part of your style but they may not contribute to the effectiveness of your message. Bear in mind that the persons reading your letter are busy ones thus they don’t have enough time to for long letters. Also show them that you deserve the scholarship and that you need not explain it in so many words.
Write a grammatical and error-free letter. A well-written and error-free letter shows strength, competency and efficiency of the sender. Remember that every word counts and function to contribute to the success of the letter. Check each sentence carefully. You may want to use programs or softwares in checking for errors. You may also want to ask a friend or a mentor to critic your letter. You may also want to take advantage of sample thank you letters in the net and derive inspiration from them.
