It is really upsetting to see a photograph taken with utmost care being reduced to nothing because of a red eye. It spoils the very beauty and glamor of the photograph and the consoling factor is that there are many ways of removing the red eye from a photograph. Photoshop comes up with some great solutions.
You can use Adobe Photoshop 7.0 version or even a higher version for a successful removal of red eye. The photo that has a red eye needs to be opened in the Adobe Photoshop and the layers window should be visible. If it is not visible, then it has to be activated with the help of the menu on the Windows. The image has to be enlarged to the maximum and the eyes should be fully visible to you. You will find that in the Layers window, there is a small adjustment symbol which resembles a circle with half black and half white colors. You have to click on it and Channel Mixer has to be selected. Now you have to make the red color 0% and the other colors like blue and green equal. You can observe through the layers window that the channel mixer layer has a white patch on the right which is known as the mask. The foreground color has to be set as black and now you can select a paint brush and click on the mask box so that it becomes active. Now when you paint the eyes that were red before, they will again become red and you need to reverse the mask. Select Invert option from the image menu, and now the eyes will not have the red color in them. If you still see some red color around the eyes, with the help of layer mask, you can choose white for Foreground color to paint around the eyes. You can adjust the color of the eyes with the help of Channel mixer adjustment layer.
Photoshop CS2 has Red Eye tool has excellent effect on red eye in photos. You have to select the tool from the tool box, and pull a rectangle that will fully surround the pupil. With the help of Color Replacement tool, you can manually paint over the pupil. You can use a brush that has one third size of the diameter of the pupil. Sponge tool is not frequently used and is found in the Dodge and Burn tools. This tool has to be set to Desaturate at the options bar and the flow has to be 100%. A brush that has a tip smaller than the pupil has to be used and the tool has to be draged in small circle inside the pupil. The desaturating effect of the tool removes the red from the pupil and the Burn tool can be used to make it darker.
Using the software tools, it is never difficult to remove the red eye from any photograph, be it digital or regular one. With any of these applications, you can achieve the result that is absolutely convincing and natural and you will be thrilled at the outcome !!
