To attract traffic to your blog or website, you'll want to pay attention to SEO (search engine optimization). There are two types: on-page and off-page. In this article I will be talking about on-page only.
Tip # 1 – Keyword Placement
To fully optimize your SERP (search engine results page) rank – and pull in more traffic – your keyword should be in your URL (domain name), meta name description, page title, and header. When you purchase a domain name, make sure it begins with your keyword and ends with either com, org, or net. Chances are your exact domain name will be taken, and you will have to add a word to the end of it, like "info," "review," "now," etc.
If you are using WordPress, there are a few SEO-related plugins to choose from (I use All In One SEO Pack) that will set up your description, page title, and header with a little help from you. These four items, when configured properly, will go a long way toward improving your on-page search engine optimization.
Tip # 2 – LSI Keyword Placement
LSI (latent semantic indexing) is a fancy way of saying "keyword-related clusters of terms," and it is a very important part of obtaining the highest rank possible for your blog or website. You find LSI keywords during your keyword search, using software such as the free Google Keyword Research Tool or any of the many different commercial keyword search tools available. Google "keyword software" and you'll find plenty to choose from.
If, for example, you search for "wedding dresses," your search will bring back related terms such as "wedding favors" or "bridesmaid dresses." These are LSI keywords that can help your site rank, if you use them wisely by sprinkling them throughout the content you're writing as well as use them (in WordPress) as one or more of your Categories.
Tip # 3 – Pictures and Videos
It's a well known fact that Google likes you to use pictures and videos in your blog and website content. The theory is that these other forms of media add value for the reader / surfer.
If you do not have your own pictures to post, there are plenty of places online to buy them cheaply or sometimes even get them for free. When you do use them, make sure you put your keyword in the ALT tag when you set them up. This will help your on-page SEO.
Many marketers register with YouTube and make their own videos. Some are as simple as posting a slide show with narration, and many are only a few minutes in duration. If you think making a video is beyond you at this point, you can always just link to someone else's video and write text to go with it. In both cases, it will add to your on-page SEO.
These three quick tips in search engine optimization were meant as an eye opener for the new affiliate marketer, and as such were meant as starting points for further investigation and study. Many other sources, both online and off, exist to help you learn even more about the world of SEO.
